b. They presented him because he was the 1st born son; the 1st born presented as recognition of being delivered from Egypt. Had it been a girl, they would have had to wait 80 days.

15. He would see the Messiah before he died.

16. They assumed that Jesus was with them on the journey. They traveled in large groups and hence the assumption.

17. He knew he had to be in His Father's house doing God's business. The Jews now considered him a man.

Second Period

1. He begin at John's ministry
b. He began at this point because it was an active event. He was the forerunner, already out teaching and preaching.

2. a. Malachai 3:1, b. Isaiah 40:3. Jesus used someone to "advertise" for Him because no one had heard of Him.

3. Their attitude was that they didn't like the Messiah's coming, that it would void their existence and their cushy life styles

4. To be born again (of the water and the spirit); represents the new beginning, new start

6. John the Baptist b. So that John would know who was the Messiah.

7. Matt - Because He was fully man, made flesh subject to human limitations (see Phil 2)

a. To prostitute his divine power for personal gain

c. Turning Him aside from dieing and redeeming humanity

b. how we will overcome temptation

20. They were in the court of Gentiles and they were there because people would change their ROman money into to Jewish (or temple) money

The Third Period of Jesus

1. Estimated length: 18 months

2. Main emphasis: miracles and setting forth the great social principles (love your neighbor, etc.)

3. The opening and closing uniqueness: rejected in Nazareth - Luke 4:16

4. Read from Isaiah 61

5. They were foreigners (Jews hated outsiders)

6. Because He spoke of dogs to them

7. John 4:46 - Most likely Herod of Antipest

8. Herod was the one who killed John the Baptist, the very God that John preached of was now the person Herod's people were looking to for help

9. Not being present

10. Matt 4:15 - Repent

11. Mark 1:21 - The man in the synagogue at Capernaum.
