How To Be An Uncompromising Man Or Women Of God
"But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness,
godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. Fight the good fight of
faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have
confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses." - 1st Timothy 6:11-12
What Does It Take These Days To Be Men or Women of God?
- Flee the passions of wealth
- Follow after the things of God
- Fight the fight of faith and lay hold on eternal life
- Keep this commandment
This is a straightforward command to the children of God. In these verses
(11-16) the Apostle Paul exhorts Timothy and us to flee from the love of
money and pursue spiritual possessions rather than material.

As we consider these "spiritual possessions" today please identify all of
the words that apply and consider applying them to your daily walk in the
Lord.
1. Flee The Passions Of Wealth
Christian are to flee the passions of wealth as discussed in verses 1st
Timothy 6:9-10 (desiring to be rich, harmful lusts, the love of money,
and greediness).
Solomon learned that riches and wealth were not the path to fulfillment in
Proverbs 23:4,5, "Do not wear yourself out to get rich; have the wisdom
to show restraint." verse 5 says why: "Cast but a glance at riches,
and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the
sky like an eagle."
He also warned in Proverbs 11:28, "Whoever trusts in his riches will
fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf." In the course
of life, if earthly things come our way we should use them and thank God
for them but place no trust in them for otherwise we will be overcome by
worry and anxiety.
"The man who loves money is not a man of God, The man of God is the person
who flees the love of money."
"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and
acceptable and perfect will of God." - Romans 12:2
We so easily can be caught spending all of our time and efforts to
becoming rich. When we need to know the will of God we are not going to
be
able to discern that which is the good, acceptable and perfect will of
God.
2. Follow After The Things Of God
The man of God follows after the things of God. The word "follow" means:
to run after, to run swiftly after, to hotly pursuit, to seek eagerly and
earnestly. To be a God chaser or a God catcher. In other words, aiming and
pursuing something until it's gained; never giving up until we've reached
our goal.
3. Fight The Good Fight Of Faith And Lay Hold On Eternal Life
As Christians we are to fight for what we believe in. The word fight means
to agonize, struggle, battle, contend and to fight for the prize. It is
the idea of a desperate effort and struggle for eternal life.
Matthew Henry best describes the fight as: "Those who get to heaven must
fight their way there. There must be a conflict with corruption and
temptations and the power of darkness. Observe it is a good fight, it is
a
good cause, and it will have a good end and purpose Observe Eternal life
is the crown proposed to us, forever encouragement to war, and to fight. This
we must lay hold on eternal life as those that are afraid of coming short
of it and losing it. Lay hold and take heed of loosing your hold. We are
called to fight and to lay hold on eternal life."
The man of God is to live up to his profession. He must do exactly what he
professes: fight the good fight of faith and lay hold on eternal life.
"Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one
may take your crown." - Revelation 3:11
4. The Man Of God Must Keep These Commandments
God has the power to quicken all things. The word "quicken" means to give
life, to bring forth alive. God is life. God actually has the power to
inject and infuse eternal life into us. If we keep His commandments He
will quicken us to live forever, He will give us eternal life.
"And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe
this?" - John 11:26
"But has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus
Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to
light through the gospel." - 2nd Timothy 1:10
I hope that this word of encouragement propels you on to an even better
and inspired walk with Christ!
