Why Your School Is Blessed

When we get up in the morning, most of us concentrate on what we have to do - haul ourselves out of bed, shower, eat if we have time, get to school/work, etc. You know, the stuff we do because we have a life and live in the real world. Inspired Christian.org challenges you to spend some time every morning thinking about who you are.

Going away to college can be exciting, scary, wild, or all of the above. And don't think Christian colleges are always a failsafe alternative. What should they expect when they arrive on campus? How to Stay Christian in College is an interactive guide that lets students know what to expect and reassures them that they can attend school and still maintain their faith. Get How to Stay Christian in College.

Continued from above...

Whether you think your school has a sorry basketball court, lame library and gross food, or, whether you attend a high-tech, high-class institution, the school you attend is blessed. Why? Because you are a student there.

Think with me for a moment about two scriptures in Matthew we have probably heard all our lives:

"Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid." - Matthew 5:13-14

Charles Swindoll, in a Bible study entitled, "Improving Your Serve", describes the attributes of salt and light and relates them to our daily walk:

1. Salt arrests corruption
Jesus first spoke these words to Galilean fishermen who understood that salt was the only element keeping their fish fresh and edible for market. With unsaved souls perishing around us and moral decay clawing at us, we act as a preserving agent to arrest corruption.

2. Salt creates a thirst
Unselfish behaviour and true love for others can cause others to thirst for the Living Water that Jesus grants us.

3. Salt adds flavor
We should bring joy and enthusiasm to every relationship!

4. Light is silent
If we reflect the love of God in our lives in our actions, we will not have to say a word to dispel the darkness.

5. Light gives direction
A Christian example leads to the Truth and exposes sin.

6. Light attracts attention
Just as Jesus attracted attention in His day, so will you in your day.

God has placed you where you are for a reason! Step up to the plate and watch how Jesus ministers through servants who make themsevles available.

Here is a challenge to add to your morning routine:

  • Remember that you are different
  • Commit to being responsible
  • Never forget that you are influential.

Now go to our 3rd topic:
3. Fanning your daily flame
