Perhaps the most colorful book I've ever read, "Paul, a Novel" is a must read for any fan of the Apostles. Furthermore, reading this book will lead the reader to a better understanding of life during the 2nd century and gives stronger meaning to why the New Testament writers wrote what they wrote. When Peter wrote in 1st Peter 2:24 that by His stripes we are saved, the reader can feel the pain that the Apostle Paul felt throughout his entire life, because of his numerous lashings. Clearly, the author, Walter Wangerin takes a lot of creative liberties throughout this book, he's writing in what's known as an imaginative narrative. Yet, it makes for wonderful reading and a vivid recounting of the young Apostolic church in Rome, and throughout the world. This is a must read for all belivers and those that are fans of early century civilization through the life and times of early Christians.
