Greetings, beloved! 🌟
Today, we reflect on the powerful events of Acts 4, a chapter that showcases the courage and boldness of the apostles Peter and John as they stand firm in their faith despite facing severe opposition.
Peter and John are arrested by the religious authorities while speaking to the people. Despite their arrest, many who heard the message believed, and the number of believers grew to about five thousand. This teaches us that God's work continues even in the face of persecution.
The next day, Peter and John are brought before the Sanhedrin. Filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter boldly proclaims that the healing of the lame man was done in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom they crucified but whom God raised from the dead. He declares,
"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." (Acts 4:12 KJV)
The Sanhedrin is astonished by the apostles' boldness, recognizing that these men had been with Jesus. Despite their amazement, they command Peter and John not to speak or teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John respond with unwavering conviction, saying,
"Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard." (Acts 4:19-20 KJV)
After their release, Peter and John return to their fellow believers and report what happened. Together, they pray for boldness to continue speaking God's word. The place where they are meeting is shaken, and they are all filled with the Holy Spirit, speaking the word of God boldly.
The chapter concludes by describing the unity and generosity of the early believers. They share their possessions and care for one another, demonstrating the power of the Holy Spirit at work within the community.
