In the book of II Kings 4:42-44, we find an inspiring narrative of faith and divine provision. A man came from Baal Shalishah bringing the man of God, Elisha, twenty loaves of barley bread, made from the first ripe grain, along with some heads of new grain. Elisha instructed his servant to give it to the people to eat. However, the servant questioned how such a small amount could feed a hundred men. Elisha confidently replied, "Give it to the people to eat. For this is what the LORD says: 'They will eat and have some left over.'" The servant obeyed, distributing the loaves to the men. Remarkably, they all ate and had leftovers, just as the word of the LORD had declared.
This miraculous event underscores the theme of divine abundance and the power of faith in God's promises. It teaches us that no matter how limited our resources may seem, when blessed and directed by God, they can exceed all expectations. The story of feeding the hundred men with twenty loaves of bread reminds us of the importance of trust and obedience to God's instructions, showcasing that His provision is always sufficient and often more than enough.
Scripture:
II Kings 4:42-44 (KJV)
And there came a man from Baalshalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of corn in the husk thereof. And he said, Give unto the people, that they may eat.
And his servitor said, What, should I set this before an hundred men? He said again, Give the people, that they may eat: for thus saith the LORD, They shall eat, and shall leave thereof.
So he set it before them, and they did eat, and left thereof, according to the word of the LORD.
