In Gospel of Luke 18, Jesus Christ delivers one of the most piercing parables about the condition of the human heart—the story of the Pharisee and the tax collector.
Two men enter the temple to pray.
One stands confidently, listing his spiritual achievements—fasting, tithing, and moral superiority. The other stands far away, unable even to lift his eyes to heaven. Beating his chest, he cries out:
“God be merciful to me a sinner.”
Jesus makes a shocking declaration:
It is the humble tax collector—not the proud religious man—who goes home justified before God.
This powerful teaching reveals a timeless truth:
God is not impressed by outward religion, spiritual resumes, or self-righteous comparisons. What He desires is a broken, humble, and repentant heart.
The parable forces us to ask a deep question:
Are we trusting in our own goodness… or are we trusting in God’s mercy?
As Jesus reminds us:
📖 “For every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.” — Gospel of Luke 18:14 (KJV)
In this video we explore:
The danger of spiritual pride
