Jeremiah 20 “A Fire Shut Up in My Bones”

Jeremiah 20 is one of the most intense and emotional chapters in the entire book. The prophet Jeremiah is beaten, humiliated, and locked in stocks by Pashhur, the chief priest—yet the Word of God proves unstoppable. After his release, Jeremiah declares God’s judgment: Pashhur is renamed Magor-missabib (“terror on every side”), a sign of the destruction coming upon Jerusalem for rejecting God’s warnings.

But this chapter goes even deeper.

Jeremiah pours out his heart in a raw, honest prayer—confessing fear, exhaustion, and deep anguish over his calling. He feels mocked, isolated, and even tempted to walk away. Still, he can’t. God’s Word burns within him like a fire shut up in his bones, compelling him to speak truth no matter the cost.

Key themes from Jeremiah 20:

🔥 Persecution for righteousness

🔥 Honesty and vulnerability in prayer

🔥 Courage to speak truth under pressure

🔥 God’s vindication for His faithful servants

If you’ve ever struggled, felt misunderstood, or wrestled with your calling—Jeremiah 20 will speak to you in a powerful way.
