In Revelation 2:20, Jesus issues a stern rebuke to the church in Thyatira for allowing a woman named Jezebel to lead believers astray. Jezebel, who claims to be a prophetess, seduces the faithful into acts of sexual immorality and idolatry. The verse states, "Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols."
This reference to Jezebel serves as a powerful warning against false teachings and the dangers of tolerating immoral behavior within the church. Jesus does not just admonish the church; He also forewarns severe consequences if Jezebel and her followers do not repent. Revelation 2:22-23 continues, "Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works."
This passage underscores the importance of spiritual integrity and accountability. Jesus' message is clear: there are dire repercussions for those who lead others into sin and for those who follow such paths without repentance.
