Malachi 4 delivers a powerful and sobering conclusion to the Old Testament. The chapter warns of a coming “day of the Lord,” when evil will be judged like stubble consumed in fire, leaving neither root nor branch. Yet for those who fear and honor God’s name, there is an incredible promise: “the Sun of righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings.” This beautiful image points to restoration, hope, joy, and spiritual renewal.

The chapter also calls God’s people to remember the law of Moses and remain faithful in obedience. Finally, God promises to send Elijah before that great and dreadful day, bringing reconciliation and turning hearts back toward one another. Malachi 4 reminds us that God is both just and merciful.
