What does it really mean to follow Jesus?
In Matthew 19, a wealthy young man runs to Jesus with a sincere question:
“What good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?” — Matthew 19:16 (KJV)
He kept the commandments.
He lived morally.
He did “everything right.”
But Jesus goes deeper.
“If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor… and come and follow me.” — Matthew 19:21 (KJV)
The young man walked away sorrowful — because he had great possessions.
Then Jesus says something shocking:
“It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.” — Matthew 19:24 (KJV)
This isn’t just about money.
It’s about whatever owns your heart.
Wealth.
Status.
Security.
Comfort.
Control.
Anything we cling to more tightly than Christ becomes a barrier to discipleship.
But here’s the promise:
“Every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren… for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.” — Matthew 19:29 (KJV)
Following Jesus costs something.
But not following Him costs everything.
The question Matthew 19 asks us is simple:
What are you unwilling to surrender?
🔥 Watch. Reflect. Be honest.
True discipleship is radical trust.
