Good day, everyone! Today, let's explore Acts 26, a powerful chapter where Paul gives his testimony before King Agrippa. This chapter is a remarkable example of boldness, transformation, and the power of God's calling.
Acts 26 begins with Paul being granted permission to speak for himself. He starts by expressing his gratitude to King Agrippa for the opportunity to present his case. Paul recounts his early life, explaining how he lived as a Pharisee, adhering strictly to the Jewish law, and how he persecuted Christians with zeal (Acts 26:45, 911).
Paul then describes his dramatic encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus. He vividly recalls how a bright light from heaven blinded him, and he heard Jesus’ voice asking, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" This moment was a turning point in Paul's life, leading to his conversion and calling to spread the gospel (Acts 26:12-18).
Paul emphasizes the mission given to him by Jesus: to open the eyes of both Jews and Gentiles, turning them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. He highlights that his message is one of repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, fulfilling the prophecies of the Old Testament (Acts 26:19-23).
As Paul speaks, Festus interrupts, accusing him of being insane due to his passionate delivery. But Paul calmly responds, affirming that his words are true and reasonable. He then directly addresses King Agrippa, asking if he believes the prophets, knowing Agrippa is familiar with them (Acts 26:24-27).
King Agrippa, impressed but perhaps uneasy, replies, "Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?" Paul's heartfelt response encapsulates his mission: "Short time or long—I pray to God that not only you but all who are listening to me today may become what I am, except for these chains" (Acts 26:28-29).
