Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, today we reflect on a profound and encouraging command from our Lord Jesus Christ. In Matthew 5:12 (KJV), Jesus tells us to "rejoice and be exceeding glad" when we face persecution. This message is both challenging and comforting, reminding us of the eternal perspective we must hold as followers of Christ.

Persecution can take many forms—mockery, discrimination, physical harm, or even death. It is natural to feel disheartened or fearful when facing such trials. However, Jesus calls us to respond differently. He commands us to rejoice and be exceedingly glad. This seems counterintuitive, but it is a call to look beyond our present sufferings to the greater reality of God's promises.

Jesus assures us that our reward in heaven is great. This promise shifts our focus from the temporal to the eternal. The trials we endure now are temporary, but the glory and rewards in heaven are everlasting. Romans 8:18 (KJV) reinforces this truth: "For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."

Jesus also reminds us that we are in good company. "For so persecuted they the prophets which were before you." The prophets of the Old Testament, such as Elijah, Jeremiah, and Daniel, faced immense persecution for proclaiming God's truth. They stood firm in their faith despite the opposition. Their examples encourage us to remain steadfast, knowing that we share in the legacy of God's faithful servants.
