The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 6:15 (KJV) - "And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace."
Introduction: Good morning, brothers and sisters in Christ. Today, we continue our exploration of the Armor of God as described in Ephesians 6. We focus on a crucial piece of this spiritual armor: the Shoes of the Gospel of Peace. These shoes not only provide protection and readiness but also symbolize the foundation of our walk in faith.
1. The Purpose of the Shoes: The Roman soldier’s sandals were designed for stability and readiness. They had thick soles and hobnails for traction, ensuring the soldier could stand firm and move swiftly in battle. Similarly, the Shoes of the Gospel of Peace equip us to stand firm against the adversities of life and to move forward with the mission of spreading the Gospel.
2. The Gospel of Peace: The term “gospel” means good news, and this good news brings peace. This peace is not merely the absence of conflict but a deep, abiding sense of well-being and reconciliation with God. As Romans 5:1 (KJV) states, "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." This peace transcends understanding and guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).
3. Preparation and Readiness: To have our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace means to be ready at all times to share the good news. 1 Peter 3:15 (KJV) exhorts us, "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear." We must be spiritually prepared to seize every opportunity to spread the message of Christ’s love and salvation.
4. Walking in Peace: Walking in the Shoes of the Gospel of Peace means living a life that reflects the peace of Christ. Colossians 3:15 (KJV) says, "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful." Our walk should be characterized by peace, showing the world the transformative power of the Gospel.
5. The Impact of Peace: When we walk in peace, we become agents of reconciliation. Matthew 5:9 (KJV) tells us, "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God." By spreading the Gospel, we bring others into the peace we have found in Christ, helping to mend broken relationships and bring healing to wounded hearts.
Conclusion: As we don the Shoes of the Gospel of Peace, let us remember the purpose and power they represent. They prepare us to stand firm, to walk in the ways of the Lord, and to spread the peace that surpasses all understanding. May we be diligent in our preparation and eager in our proclamation of the Gospel, bringing peace to a world in desperate need of it.
Let us pray.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for the peace that comes from knowing Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to always be ready to share this peace with others. Equip us with the Shoes of the Gospel of Peace so that we may stand firm in our faith and walk in Your ways. Guide our steps and give us the courage to proclaim Your good news to all we encounter. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
