In Matthew 26:47-56 (KJV), we witness a pivotal moment in the New Testament: the arrest of Jesus. As Jesus spoke to His disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane, Judas, one of the twelve, approached with a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent by the chief priests and elders. Judas had arranged a signal, saying, "Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast." Judas kissed Jesus, thus betraying Him.
Jesus, knowing all that was to come, addressed Judas, saying, "Friend, wherefore art thou come?" The crowd seized Jesus, and despite Peter's attempt to defend Him with a sword, Jesus rebuked the violence, emphasizing His submission to God's will. This moment marked the beginning of the fulfillment of the scriptures.
