Good morning, beloved brothers and sisters in Christ. Today, we reflect on the calling of the first disciples, as recorded in Matthew 4:18-22 (KJV).

"And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him."

In this passage, Jesus calls Peter, Andrew, James, and John to follow Him. Their immediate response to Jesus' call highlights several important truths:

Immediate Obedience: The disciples left their nets and their livelihood without hesitation. This demonstrates the importance of responding promptly and decisively to Jesus' call.

Total Commitment: Leaving their nets and boats symbolizes a complete break from their old lives and total commitment to following Jesus. Discipleship requires wholehearted dedication.

Transformation of Purpose: Jesus promises to make them "fishers of men," transforming their purpose from catching fish to bringing people into God's kingdom. Following Jesus involves a transformation of our life's purpose and mission.

As we reflect on the calling of the first disciples, let us consider how we respond to Jesus' call in our own lives. Are we willing to leave behind our old ways and commit fully to Him? Are we ready to embrace a transformed purpose for His kingdom?
