In the closing verses of the Gospel of Matthew, we witness a profound and defining moment in Christian history known as the Great Commission. After His resurrection, Jesus gathers His eleven disciples on a mountain in Galilee. This was no ordinary gathering; it was the backdrop for a pivotal command that would shape the mission of His followers for generations to come.

Standing before His disciples, Jesus declares, "All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth." This affirmation of divine authority sets the stage for the commission that follows. With unmatched solemnity, He instructs them, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." This directive emphasizes the universality of the gospel, transcending ethnic, cultural, and geographical boundaries. It is a call to disciple-making that includes teaching and baptizing, symbolizing both initiation and instruction in the faith.

Jesus continues, "Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you." This charge underscores the importance of obedience to His teachings. Finally, He offers a promise of His enduring presence, "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." This assurance of divine companionship empowers the disciples, reminding them that as they fulfill this monumental task, they are never alone.

Thus, the Great Commission encapsulates the heart of the Christian mission: to spread the gospel, make disciples, and embody the teachings of Christ with the promise of His eternal presence.
