What would you do if a notorious sinner walked into the room while Jesus was eating dinner?

In Gospel of Luke chapter 7, an unforgettable moment unfolds. A Pharisee named Simon invites Jesus to dine at his house. During the meal, a woman known throughout the town for her sinful life quietly enters carrying an alabaster jar filled with costly perfume.

Overcome with emotion, she kneels at Jesus’ feet and begins to weep. Her tears fall onto His feet, washing away the dust. In a remarkable act of humility and devotion, she wipes His feet with her hair, kisses them repeatedly, and pours the expensive perfume over them.

Simon is stunned. In his mind he questions Jesus: “If this man were truly a prophet, he would know what kind of woman is touching him.”

But Jesus knows Simon’s thoughts.

He tells a powerful parable about two debtors—one who owed a large amount and another who owed very little. When both debts are forgiven, Jesus asks Simon a penetrating question:

“Which one will love the lender more?”

Simon answers correctly: the one who was forgiven the greater debt.

Then Jesus reveals the heart of the moment. The woman’s extravagant love flows from her deep awareness of forgiveness. While Simon offered little hospitality, this woman gave everything she had—her tears, her dignity, and her most precious possession.

Finally Jesus speaks words that change her life forever:

“Thy sins are forgiven… Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.” (KJV)

This incredible story reminds us that when we truly grasp the depth of God’s forgiveness, our hearts respond with overwhelming love, gratitude, and devotion.

No sin is too great for God’s grace.
