Good morning, beloved brothers and sisters in Christ. Today, we reflect on the visit of the shepherds, as recorded in Luke 2:8-20 (KJV).
"And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger."
The shepherds, upon hearing this miraculous announcement, hurried to Bethlehem to see the newborn Jesus. They found Mary, Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger, just as the angel had said. After witnessing this incredible sight, they spread the word about what they had been told concerning the child, and all who heard it were amazed.
This visit of the shepherds highlights several important truths:
God’s Message is for All: The shepherds were ordinary, humble people, yet they were chosen to receive the angelic message first. This signifies that God's message of salvation is for everyone, regardless of status.
Immediate Obedience: The shepherds immediately went to see Jesus, demonstrating the importance of responding promptly to God's call.
Spreading the Good News: After their visit, the shepherds shared the news of Jesus' birth with others, setting an example for us to spread the gospel.
As we reflect on the visit of the shepherds, let us remember that God's message of love and salvation is for all of us. May we respond with the same eagerness and joy as the shepherds and share the good news of Jesus Christ with those around us.
