Good morning, brothers and sisters in Christ. Today, we explore the profound and foundational gift of apostleship as described in Ephesians 4:11-12. This gift was instrumental in establishing the early church and continues to influence the body of Christ today. Let us delve into what it means to be an apostle and how this gift impacts our lives and our church.

Ephesians 4:11-12 (KJV) says:

"And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ."

The term "apostle" comes from the Greek word "apostolos," meaning "one who is sent out." Apostles are messengers and ambassadors of Christ, chosen to lay the foundations of the church. The original apostles were the twelve disciples chosen by Jesus, along with Paul, who was called later. Their primary roles included preaching the gospel, establishing churches, and authoring much of the New Testament.

Apostles are directly appointed by Jesus Christ. They carry His authority and are sent out to represent Him. For example, Matthew 10:1-2 states:

"And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease." Apostles are foundational to the church, providing structure and leadership, instrumental in teaching sound doctrine and guiding the early believers.
